CMC Blog: Jetty Road

Hi CMC fans,

Wow - what an amazing Tamworth Country Music Festival! It was great to see the streets and venues bustling once again. The theme of this years’ festival ‘Looking Forward, Looking Back’, gave us good reason to sit and reflect on the past year or so and some of the highlights.

Looking back, we’ve travelled countless miles to play concerts in countries such as Canada, U.S.A, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Austria, plus in our own backyard Australia.

But if you asked us to name our biggest milestone to date, we’d have to say our latest album Far Away Places. It was recorded on the tail end of our 2010 international tour at The Factory Studios in Vancouver, Canada (in the very same studio as Bon Jovi’s Slippery When Wet, Aerosmith’s Pump and ACDC’s Thunderstruck!!! Not very country, we know, but it sure helped with the high notes!).

And it was the first time we ventured into writing songs outside the group (we have always written our songs internally in the past). Two of the biggest superstars in Canadian Country Music, Jason McCoy (The Road Hammers) and George Canyon came on board to help us out, and it was a really great experience (Ladies, they’re not too bad on the eyes either).

In true ‘Road Hammers’ style, Jason co-wrote tracks 'I’m A Dreamer' and 'Welcome to the Party,' while George not only co-wrote the beautiful ballad 'Wrong,' but also features his vocals on the song as well.

And working with producer Paul Shatto was one of our favourite experiences so far. We now call him a good friend; he even came out to Tamworth for the festival this year – we can safely say he has been totally captivated by us Aussies and our beautiful country!

We’ve just returned from an action packed Tamworth Country Music festival including our concert at the Capitol Theatre on the Thursday night. One of our favourite parts is the VIP experience. With a limit of 12 tickets, which were sold out within 2 weeks of going on sale, fans have the opportunity of a meeting us before the show with finger food and Champagne plus signed copies of all 4 Jetty Road albums and best seats in the house.

Meeting our fans in person is one of the best parts of our job, but we girls love it because it gives us the chance to chat chat chat (and how we love to do that!).

On the last Saturday night, we were absolutely thrilled to win our second Golden Guitar Award for Best Group at the CMAA Awards!  We also got to rock out on stage and play our #1 hit 'I’m A Dreamer' as well.

Now looking forward.... Jetty Road will be staying in Australia this year! We have been gallivanting across the globe for the past four years and to tell you the truth, it’s partially for a rest, and partially to appease the emails we get about never being at Gympie, Deni, etc!

But... 2013 is a whole new story.  Looks like we may be heading straight to Nashville for a while, nothing concrete yet, but we’ll definitely be keeping you posted on any developments.

Paula, Lee, Jules and Simon –xx-
